Jim Harvey
Biography

I started working with metal in the late 1960’s, and it is a craft which I have always enjoyed.

In the mid-1970’s, I visited a gallery in Tucson, Arizona and saw some metal art. I decided it would be a fun thing to do. Having no formal art education, I first started with scrap pieces of metal making small humorous figures of people and animals and giving most of them away.

In the late 1970’s, I stopped making metal art due to my work, but I never forgot that metal art was what I wanted to do. When I retired in 1999, I was living in Arizona and got my chance to start again, making pieces from recycled material whenever possible.

In 2002, we moved to Mena, Arkansas and, after a year’s delay, I continued with metal art, still using recycled material when possible. It takes many hours each month looking for pieces of scrap that fit to make the art stand out and be one of a kind.

Each piece is a challenge, and the challenge is something I enjoy!
