Dorothy Cooney
Biography

I've been drawing, doodling, and painting all my life. Over the years, I've worked in various media but now prefer oils. Nature is my inspiration, but growing up in New York City didn't exactly provide much opportunity to get inspired, so I worked mostly from calendar photos and trips to the country. Moving to Houston nearly 30 years ago helped me really connect with nature through the many nearby wildlife refuges and greenery everywhere, but it wasn't enough. After my husband and I retired from our careers, we moved our home to Arkansas. We had visited this area a few times and always loved it, and in time it came to feel like home. A year ago we bought a lovely home in Wickes on 40 wooded acres, a river flowing through the property, and lots of birds and wildlife I'm in heaven!

I paint mostly from my own photographs taken in various parts of the world and now have more than I can possibly complete. The colors of the birds and flowers, shapes of leaves, rocks, and terrain, and the complexities of the natural world fascinate me and nourish my soul. I am nourished even more when I put this beauty on canvas and am able to share this feeling through my paintings.
