Charles Johnson
Biography

Charles was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta. He attended Mississippi State University and received a BS degree in Animal Science, with emphasis on horticulture and additional course studies in art, floral design and photography.

His desire to be a blacksmith was not evident in the early years. There were two career paths which likely stoked an interest in blacksmithing. One was the seven plus years he spent in the employment of a metal building manufacturer. Second was a thirty-year career in sales and consulting in the field of agriculture.

One honed his need to build and create while the other gave him a look at bygone American History. Searching through fallen buildings and old farmsteads, he realized that perhaps the most important contributor to the success of nineteenth and early twenty-century farms and southern life in general was the blacksmith.

In the nineties it became evident that the era of the blacksmith wasn’t gone at all—rather, blacksmithing was enjoying a huge resurgence as a true art form. New breeds of artist blacksmiths were taking the legacy of their predecessors to unbelievable heights of accomplishments.

“I’m proud to be a small part of the artist blacksmith movement

There is FIRE in the FORGE—SMOKE in the CHIMMNEY—HAMMER in HAND—the ANVIL is RINGING—the BLACKSMITH is WELL.
